Tenet
Alright I recently stated that Dunkirk was Nolan’s most underrated work, but I’m quickly gonna have to rectify that. That title belongs to Tenet. There’s so many scenes in this movie that scratch that itch at the back of your mind that not many other movies can reach.
Also there’s just something so unsettling about watching inverted and backward movements, even if it’s just a simple car chase scene - and the score in the background of those scenes constantly adds an edge to it. Time is a formidable foe and with every inverted scene, that inevitably becomes even clearer.
One of the most satisfying things about this movie is re-experiencing certain background moments that may have felt insignificant at first glance. The renewed context you get later on with the actual weight it held when they were taking place feels so rewarding.
Only a few minor gripes about this movie is that the pacing felt way too fast at the beginning of the film. You look back and feel like so much has already happened, yet the movie had barely even settled in.
Also there’s moments where the dialogue and emotional depth doesn’t feel as impactful as it should, feeling slightly forced - but it doesn’t take too much away from the overall feel of the movie.
A movie I’ll definitely be rewatching. And one that I’d expect gets better after every viewing.
