This shouldn’t work but it does. Pays great homage to the first but doesn’t linger in the nostalgia and does a pretty good job of showing a new, fresh story. I like that it addresses the changes in the last twenty years with social media, the digital age, and people’s shortening attention spans. I also enjoyed Miranda’s scene in the car reflecting on what her career has cost her. I wish they explored that a bit more. Also worth mentioning, it had so many stylistic similarities to the first one. Glad they kept the same director. List: [2026 Ranked ](https://boxd.it/Sf4b0)

*“What if I don’t want to live like you live?” “Don’t be ridiculous Andrea, everybody wants this.”* Can’t believe it took me twenty years to watch this. This has been a huge blind spot for me for years. I can finally understand all the references! The pacing of this movie was awesome, it didn’t skip a beat and never felt like it dragged. The film was definitely a product of its time with the fatphobia sprinkled throughout. I also just don’t buy Anne Hathaway as the frumpy fat girl. Like she is stunning in this movie, and it kept taking me out of it when they would comment on her body/and how she looks. Also her friends were lowkey not great/supportive. God forbid she needs to put her career first for a time. I hope in the second film, she has found a new guy because he was not very supportive and dragged her down. Interested to see what the second film will be about since this conclusion felt very satisfying and final.

Ben Wyatt spends the night at 1408, also the rabbit man from Donnie Darko is there. Has all the familiar horror beats and a bit predictable but was an enjoyable theatre experience. List: [2026 Ranked](https://boxd.it/Sf4b0)

Even better upon watching again. Great to see with someone who hadn’t seen it and watch their reaction. The film is like an onion, very layered. More thoughts [here](https://boxd.it/dOl3nt)
