Harakiri
I finally watched the top rated movie on Letterboxd. Harakiri is certainly a masterpiece which (somehow) in every way lives up to the hype. A story told within a story, a tale of struggle and revenge, and how a societal tradition of honor can be used to manipulate the individual. The complex themes accentuate an already compelling narrative, climaxing in a thrilling final sequence. Now, does Harakiri even break my top 25 favorite movies? No, but that is more a personal opinion than anything I can attribute to fact. As it stands, this is a movie with no inherent flaws, something I can very rarely say I’ve ever seen.
Title card rating: 9/10, they did them better back in the day.
