The Lighthouse
“The Lighthouse” is pretty much the movie that got me into stylistic/artsy cinema, so it always holds a special place in my heart. Dafoe and Pattinson give career-defining performances, both with impressive moments and monologues throughout. The cinematography is unmatched, with so many frames that look like pictures in a museum. The aspect ratio and color grading fit so well, making the movie very visually interesting. I could talk for days about the symbolism-rich plot and what I think it all means, but I’ll wait until I give it another rewatch next year (which has become basically a tradition for me at this point). This also deserves a spot on the Mount Rushmore of drunk movies.
