First time watching this cause I wasn't a cool kid in high school. Some great laughs in an endless pool of unfunny vulgar jokes. My favorite parts were the opening credits and the conclusive and beautiful ending!

[IMAX 70mm] Grateful for the opportunity to get to see this in it's "true" format. However large you think an IMAX screen is, you're probably thinking too small. Such an incredible movie-going experience. Also—yes, I'm young—I think this is the first time I've seen a movie actually projected through real film. Super cool to see the imperfections in each frame and hear the whirring of the projector behind me. Watching again I definitely was able to pay attention to the finer details, and I noticed a lot more this time than last. On a first watch I wasn't too caught up in the dialogue or acting, but it was clear as day on a rewatch. I think Holland did good, and so did Damon. Hathaway and Patterson were rough. And in terms of the dialogue, it's not that it "didn't fit" the time period. A lot of it was just corny and unnatural regardless of the setting. I think this movie is the pinnacle of **style over substance**. Everything is completely **superficial**. I absolutely appreciated the visuals more on the larger format. In a vacuum, so many of the scenes are great. The first Trojan horse flashback is an all timer to me. The cyclops scene was great too. From a production standpoint they achieved greatly. Nolan's attempts to minimize CGI definitely pay off. The problem is when you piece everything together as a story, it falls so flat. Outside of a little bit in Odysseus, you literally don't get to study a single character. Everyone is so shallow that you can care less about anything that happens. Also I finally found out the rumors are true pertaining to Nolan's audio mixing. You'd think that watching it in IMAX 70mm, his original format, that you would be able to hear the dialogue a little better. I honestly found it worse than the first time I watched it. So much of the dialogue was muffled and drowned out by background noise and music. Weird that this is a trend people notice in his films. Ironically, Odysseus loudly whispering "I think it's asleep" about the Cyclops was the clearest and loudest I heard it all movie. I could say a lot more, and past that, even more thoughts that I can't really get into words. This is easily my longest and most structured review haha. Just wanted to get things out before I forgot. But through all of my complaints, it is still a good movie. I think the pacing is solid and it feels shorter than it is. And like I said it looks great and had a great production. Just the writing and acting that fell flat. Seems like he was focused on making this so epic that he forgot to make the story worth writing home about. Thanks!

4.25/5 A terribly tragic story that I was not expecting. Definitely some 50s jank throughout, but overall an amazing story with so many twists and turns. I'm no expert on westerns, but I am told this is sort of THE American western. Certainly legit.

What an interesting movie. The main storyline is amazing. But I was generally disinterested in the periodic vignettes. I especially disliked the food-related romance scenes. Ew!
