I had to have a few hours to ingest this paste of clay on my stomach. Yes, I do think this movie is at the same level as the 2019 Joker with Joaquin Phoenix, BUT HEAR ME OUT: the acting was not that great. I mean, nothing beats Joaquin Phoenix by far, but the story of Clayface is way more intriguing and less depressing. It felt like a much easier way to present a dark perspective from a famous comic book character. The story had to be "updated" to today's terms, but it doesn't really change what made it so fascinating and scary. One of the big changes I can compare is that Clayface is way more civilized and softer than what the original writer had in mind. It was a nice surprise definitely; it had a few jump scares from time to time, but it didn't feel like a horror movie at all—it resembled way more of a thriller. Oh, and the suspense from the start to the end of the full Clayface transformation was so worth it. Seeing him transform into his final form, seeing a 2.5-meter mound of clay, was definitely a high point of this movie. Yeah DC, make more single villain character stories without any superhero on it, I'll pay from my own poket to see more of this in the future.
