Milk
To say the least, I fell in love with Harvey Milk, the civil rights icon. Van Sant crafted the film in such a way that Milk's dedication, hardships, flaws, and values came through with resonance and compassion. Though not all hope is lost, I'd be afraid that if the film were made today it would be more of a self-righteous attempt of signaling virtue. The film, as did the man himself, spoke to the humanity in most people rather than the hatred and divisiveness of some.
In the final chapter of the film, knowing what was coming next, my heart dropped as if I was at the end of the barrel myself. May Harvey Milk rest in peace.
