The Penguin
“I can’t bring you with me this time, that’s the thing about family, it’s your strength, and it drives you, f if it don’t make you weak too, and I can’t have that no more. I can’t have that s, I can’t. It’s too much. Too f* much. I’m sorry.”
Episodes 1-8 Review:
One of the all time best shows I’ve ever seen. Not just comic book shows. Shows in general. While yes, it’s only a 8 episode mini series, it is top notch quality all the way through making it one of the most consistent run of episodes I can remember. Not once in this show did I ever feel lost or bored. Nor did I ever feel like there was a weak, or even mid episode. Which is so rare to see.
Maybe my favorite movie of all time “The Batman” is in my opinion a masterpiece, and this show literally brings the film to a whole new level. It shows the insane world of Gotham, showcasing the people that live there , aswell as making the city feel so big and lived in. In the 8 episodes they are able to fully flesh out multiple brand new characters never before seen in this world, and make us truly care for each one of them. Vic is the right hand man to Oz, and immediately in the show we fall in love with this character and want to see him succeed. Sofia Falcone who later embraces her mother’s last name of Gigante, is the misunderstood and villain with a trouble past. They are able to show her backstory so well, that we start to root for the “villain” of the show, rather than the lead, title character.
Then the lead of the show Ozwald Cobb also known as “The Penguin” shows the comic book film/show world how to create a story with the main character being a terrible human being. Collin Farrell showcases an all time great performance, and shows a character that by the end, we truly hate and despise.
Overall, this mini series blew my expectations out of the water. The consistency is phenomenal, the story is flawless, you have multiple all time acting performances, interesting characters of which we love and hate, beautiful cinematography and an amazing score. Arguably the best comic book show to date.
