Christopher Nolan is a master in non-linear storytelling and odyssey was right up his alley in this regard. Rich characters, the grand setting of the poem, its immense presence was rightfully captured in the film. The physical presence of the homer's epic was served rightfully in this movie. And about the historical accuracy, while making an adaptation, the filmmaker should have creative liberty esp in mythologies. He stuck to the original material as much as possible, tried to capture every significant details regarding the stories, voyages and he did a very good job on that. But, where Nolan felt short was in the emotional department of the poem. The poem is emotionally rich equal to it's rich, grandeur setting. So many scenes where there should've been more emotional structure was just simply not upto the mark. some interactions which should have been a moment of embrace, guilt, acceptance just felt like yet another confrontation. The hades scene might be a good example where he meets his fallen soldiers, his loved ones and that scene just felt like a confrontation to a warrior(Sinon) who he betrayed. The Agamemnon part was also cut short which should've been yet another emotional moment in the movie. Odysseus was also less emotionally vulnerable than he was originally written. The rich, sufficient palaces should have been served as the contrast between the hollow and guilt filled life of the kings. The difficult choices, the inevitable were just brushed off as another sacrifice to get home. Some characters should have been more involved such as Athena. Athena's motivations and divine interventions were key in the success of the voyage and that was not mentioned rightfully. ALL IN ALL, HE CAPTURED WHAT EVERYONE SEES IN ODYSSEY, BUT COULDN'T CAPTURE WHAT EVERYONE FEELS WHILE READING ODYSSEY.
