Angel heart is not subtle (or good) noir film, it did not spend more than ten minutes without revealing the core twist. Mickey Rourke’s performance as the P.I. was alright, especially as his mental state in the film deteriorates, which contrasts the one note performance of De Niro who’s role as Louis Cyphre did not leave me with any remarkable impression. Any representation of black characters was stereotypical showcasing them as grifting pastors, broke jazz players, french speaking maids, and producing caricatures of Voodoo which are incredibly dated. The movie also spends most the on-screen time of Lisa Bonet gawking at the body of her underage character, only made worse when the movie **still** finds time to gawk at her body after she had gone through incestuous r*** resulting in her death. The reveal that the lightskin baby is some form of the devil was hilarious to a person who spends a lot of time in majority black circles.
