**“If there is no God, does it really make any difference? Life becomes understandable. What a relief.”

Pastor Thomas — Gunnar Björnstrand
This movie dives into one of the biggest questions in our existence such as “is there truly a god? Or we’ve created the idea of a god” to relieve our selves from facing the horrible truth that maybe life has no meaning and we’re born in a very random way and we can die for different reasons or ways, i love how the movie presents this ideas and questions, and i absolutely adore the dialogues between all of the characters, it’s really weird and good in the same time that almost all of them work in church and each and everyone of them are not really sure about the existence of god and that adds depth to every dialogue, i got like 5 fav moments in the movie but i’ll take about only 2 that are still in my mind and i do think about them every while, the first scene is the interaction between Thomas and Jonas who was thinking of ending his life at the time, Thomas really wanted to help Jonas but how could he help a lost soul while he was drowning in his own fears and doubts?, i think when Thomas heard and knew of the death of Jonas from suicide he knew that he could’ve saved him and blamed himself for his death, imagine being a pastor who is supposed to answer a lot of questions and help people with the fears and doubts and u see urself as helpless and doubtful and fearful as u are?, it must’ve been so hard on him that i do feel sorry for poor Thomas, the second scene is when Marta talks to god "Lord, why have you created me so dissatisfied? So lonely So bitter, if there is a purpose to my life, then show me, and i will fulfill it. But i’m so tired of my powerlessness” in the scene we see how we as human beings are weak and even when we try to talk or reach to god there’s nothing but a heart taking silence, we see how Marta or us like human beings is searching for a purpose or a cause of our life or suffering but the sky for the second time dosen’t answer and leaves us with Doubt and Fear and unending uncertainty , we see how we’re so weak without an illusion that could explain everything we’re suffering from in a very comforting way and how bitter could life be without such a thing.
