Le Samouraï
Okay, I really wasn't expecting to like Le Samourai that much.
This film is so much more than a Noiresque Crime film. It talks about loneliness, about how one person can be withdrawn from society in a way that's not functional even, just like the bird Costello kept at home. And this bird, played quite the important part in telling us how Jef was feeling, trapped, in this routine he had found himself in.
At the same time we explore the theme of love, of caring for others, and in this case, the fact that Jef doesn't have love for anyone. No matter how much he expresses "" towards Jane, and the fact that she does love him, there's something in the way he interacted with the pianist and how all unfolded that tells me that was himself truly falling in love with someone.
He finally tried to reconnect with a part of himself that was once lost, but at the same time he entered Marty's knowing fully well he wouldn't exit.
Le Samourai is a fantastic film, not that long but not less interesting. Still current.
