Donnie Darko
Every time I saw something relating to this film I thought to myself that the film seems weird. I judged it by its title and appearance, which I rarely do on the norm. I just kept putting it to the side. I only went to watch the movie because a friend strongly suggested me to. Donnie Darko is one of their favourite films of all time. After watching the film carefully I've come to deeply love this film too. I will admit nostalgia carries in my ratings for films and the reason I gave tons of 5 stars to things such as Marvel, Indiana Jones, and Lord of the Rings, etc. This movie isn't a rating based on nostalgia or outside reviews. I genuinely found myself seeing this movie as a masterpiece. As a writer I always naturally critique films and characters with their actions and dialog, thinking of things I would've done instead to make things better or more impactful. But with Donnie Darko I never critique a single part of the film. It was well made. I absolutely loved the deep messages and irony writing style of the film. This movie is a representation of the writing style I love and the type of films I'm in love with. Donnie Darko is perfect in my eyes.
Note: I watched the Theatrical version. I'll do another review critiquing in comparison to the directors cut possible in the future.
