Hamnet
“what is given may be taken away at any time.”
i went into this movie fairly blind. i knew the general premise of it being about shakespeare, his wife, and his children but what i didn’t know that it would actually rip my heart out, stomp on it, put it back in my chest, then stab it. hamlet is one of my favourite plays that shakespeare wrote and seeing the speculated story that influenced his written tragedies we know so well was gut-wrenching. the final ten minutes of this film are going to sit with me for a bit and i don’t think i can ever watch this film again. and i don’t mean that in a negative way, but in the way that another watch will never invoke the emotion the first watch did.
also, jessie buckley the academy award campaign begins now. i will get you that oscar if it’s the last thing i do. i was so blown away with all of the performances but jessie as agnes was absolutely phenomenal. you could feel every single emotion with her and that connection amplifies any story being told.
