Forbidden Planet
First impressions:A film made in 1956 that somehow manages to outshine and outdo most modern movies in style and art direction. I think this is a staple in sci-fi.
More in depth:It goes without saying that this film is a classic—and rightfully so. While it definitely struggles with the outdated misogyny typical of the 1950s, the true standout is its stunning art direction. The music, props, and set design come together to create a visually striking and imaginative world. I especially appreciated how it reimagines Shakespeare through a sci-fi lens, creating something both familiar and refreshingly unique.
