The Notebook
i love the idea of reading the story of your romance/life to your wife with dementia and the ending was truly beautiful, but i can’t overlook the cheating and how passion ridden the relationship was. i mean how were they already fighting so much during the summer when they JUST started dating and the part where noah tried to kiss allie during an argument as a way of shutting her up (?) really gave me the ick. usually you don’t argue so much so early on with the love of your life. the letters, how they always had each other on their mind throughout the years means a lot, yet i think it was mostly the romantic aesthetic and emotional moments (especially the narrative of them as an old couple) that made the movie so special. i do fuck with true love and soulmates, i just think this trope kind of overshadowed everything else and it’s the biggest part of why the movie’s seen as so beatiful. as a sucker for romance i did fall for it as well and loved it still, just thought about it more later on which lead me to suddenly analyzing the whole thing i guess.
