The Driver
I don’t really need to talk about this movie because its an obvious choice for me to love, and also, there are already a shit ton of reviews on here all basically saying the same thing.
I’d like to instead dissect Ryan o’neal a little bit. It is, afterall, an accidental Ryan o’neal double feature tonight. (And I realize that as a person, Ryan o’neal is a trash fire that hit on his own estranged daughter at a funeral).
What I’ve discerned is that I just love his naturalistic pauses and thoughtful expression. For the 70’s/early 80’s that stands out. I like the characters i’ve seen him as that are calm, cool and aloof— he does that well. But really, I think what I like is that he is kind of an amalgamation of other actors I like 🤔 mostly simon baker and a young josh heard... and just a dash of christopher lambert.
Pps. One of my favorite things about movies from the 70’s and before is how ugly everyone was allowed to be. Everybody looked real. Even bruce dern with his simon and garfunkle hairdo.
