this movie has always meant so much to me since I was a kid. genuinely such a comfort film I hope I get to see it in theaters soon when my cinema does its ghibli fest.🥹 my brother showed me this movie, howls moving castle, and my neighbor totoro when I was little and specifically i would watch this at night because I had issues sleeping as a kid so id watch movies to comfort me. There arent enough words in the world for how visually exquisite this movie is aswell, but thats just a studio ghibli thing. I also cried at the end of the movie (happy tears) im starting to really feel emotionally invested in a lot of forms of media which is great because it feels like ive found the side of myself that can connect with art again :)

I really freaking hate bear and I feel like anyone who somehow sees nikki as the villain has no comprehension skills. I genuinely feel like its terrifying how bear did not care about her beyond his own idea of her in his head and the scene where shes telling him to kill her and he goes "what would be wrong with being with me" (paraphrasing here bc i cant remember exactly what he said) is so depressing because it shows clearly that he really didnt love or care for the real nikki and that she was just a fantasy to him. The rape scene put a pit in my stomach and it's genuinely sad how her face looked so zoned out idk its hard to put what I think about that into words because it really is something you would just have to watch the movie to get. This review is gonna be a word sandwich because I have so much to comment on and idk how to put it into words but I really enjoyed a lot of the small details aswell & nikkis actress was absolutely incredible and I hope I see her in more roles. I think this movie being an independent film with only a $750k budget is very very impressive and I really enjoyed the experience

I absolutely loved this movie. I love the concept it presents regarding change and how even if its uncomfortable, sometimes change is necessary for growth. I will say the allegory for racism falls flat considering every "colored" character is white, idk if im missing the bigger picture with that but It just seemed flawed in my opinion. I enjoyed the idea that once everyone got horny or mad they turned into a technicolor version of themselves LOL & the bathtub scene w the mom where she came and the tree lit on fire is pretty poetic in a weird way !!! also does the real world mom just not gaf that her daughter went to college in an alternate dimension orrrrrr..... also this is what the people on shift tok in 2020 wished they could do with like harry potter or whatever

woman who gets played in her face time and time again to independent cut-throat business woman pipeline you just gotta love it... also her fits were fire what an icon
