Marrowbone
oh fuck. I put on a movie tonight because I wanted to feel something but not like this. This movie HURTS. I felt that shit in my chest. I thought this was going to be just a spooky little movie with a great cast and got so much more. It's such an unexpectedly beautiful and moving story. I was able to put the pieces together very easily as it got closer and closer to the ending but it's so well done I don't even care that it's a little cliche and predictable. The reveal is still such a gut punch. My absolute favorite part of the movie is the ending though. The way that living with mental illness was portrayed and the message that it doesn't make you unlovable was surprisingly touching.
I was right though, this is a spooky little movie with a great cast. There were some very tense moments throughout. I already knew that a movie featuring two of my favorite modern scream queens would be great, Charlie Heaton did a solid job, and Matthew Stagg was so sweet and endearing, but the real star of the show was George McKay. He was phenomenal in this. My dumb ass didn't realize he also played Preston in Femme which I watched literally three months ago (a white man has a different hairstyle and suddenly he's indistinguishable to me). He really is an underrated talent though and this was a great performance.
Great movie all around honestly and a pleasant, if not heartbreaking, surprise.
