Sinners
Holy shit what a fantastic movie. God I love everything about this. This is a great vampire movie - love that we're making vampires scary again. The effects in this were a joy to watch. That bright red, unrealistic-looking blood? I'm here for it. But it wasn't just a fun gorefest either. This movie actually has a very touching storyline and it nearly brought me to tears a couple time. Just the concept itself of having white actors play the vampires to portray how white people (especially back then but throughout every age including this one) feed off of the culture and creations - everything from music and art to language - of people of color and take it for themselves, and don't care what communities they decimate to do so. Ryan Coogler, your mind!! And the acting from everyone involved in this movie was fantastic. It's amazing how in such a short in-movie timespan they get you to fall in love with the characters, making it that much more heartbreaking when they eventually get slaughtered. Michael B. Jordan, of course, was the most impressive. I can't imagine that it's easy to pull double duty like this, but he certainly made it look like it was. This movie is just a really great time through and through, and I'm so glad I finally got around to watching it.
