The Shining
the resonance that this, fire walk with me, we're all going to the worlds fair, and other works have with me is an uncomfortable one, but god does it make for something that is so horrific and personal. shelley duvall was perfect like wow idk if she was actually abused by kubrick or not since accounts differ, but shes just amazing. and jack nicholson, who i find terrifying in everything hes in given how his face doesnt emote it just contorts into this frightful thing, is perfect for this too. yeah. i mean i read the book and that was great but this was just perfect, ive never been huge on king anyway so im all for an unfaithful adaptation that creates something so much more than the og ever could be. the messaging of the film, being centred on abuse, is captured so well. its brilliant. its. yeah. just yeah. this is a WELL NEEDED cheer up ??? not a cheer up but like boost in film watching?? ig?? idk how to phrase this but buffalo 66 was disappointing honestly and this was what i needed. to not just be whelmed but to be overwhelmed and overcome with a sense of wonderment and horror and sadness.
