Some Friday Night B2B Dune Thoughts: -I am really impressed with this as an adaptation information wise. I have very few quibbles with the cut plot lines and altered scenes -Elliot says “Everyone is distressed in this movie but Lady Jessica seems like she’s fighting a different level of psychological battles” -there’s discourse online right now about whether the Fremen should have been cast as more SWANA actors. I have been turning this over in my mind. There are curiously few (if any?) SWANA Fremen. Is this on purpose? I wonder if they were worried that this would play too much into Islamophobia in audience perception? And this combined with the debate about whether the connection between SWANA people and the Fremen is cultural appropriation. It’s so Dune By Frank Herbert for us to be having this conversations lol.  -I am so so so excited to see how Messiah comes out and how the foreshadowing in this movie might connect.

Friday B2B dune Thoughts pt 2 edition: -I feel like they make Paul and Jessica way more Good in the movies, and they make the water of life and the whole KH plot line way more overtly evil. I feel like it slightly changes the messaging of the Dune philosophy a little, compared with the understanding that the Atreides have always been morally grey and that spice only elevates the mind, not directly corrupts it. -Zendaya winning a mid-off with Timmy (she is worse but both are the weakest actors of the whole film. This is why we need to overthrow capitalism so we can get casting based on talent and not the attention economy.) -Alia not being born yet at the end implies this occurs over 9 months?…. And I always thought the book timeline was even pushing it and that was years.
