Star Wars
i cant give the original star wars trilogy the same approach i give most things because, despite my efforts in this viewing, i will never really be able to watch this movie without knowing star wars. this is a franchise that has been important to my life since birth, it'll never be a foreign object to me separate from childhood memories and the later franchise and everything that makes this the behemoth of culture it is.
that being said, this movie is a blast and i'm so glad to be back. its funny, and campy, and visually stunning (despite the unfortunate insertion of cgi in certain scenes), and most of all its cute. the original star wars is a little boy playing with action figures who doesnt understand how a crush works, who wants cowboys and soldiers and aliens and robots to fight using superpowers in space. aspects like the silly, oversized helmets with massive eyes and certain alien designs and the charming dynamic of the main cast really bring it in. its very very jumpy most of the time but loooves action, it doesnt quite linger on many other things despite how frankly awful this entire situation is for a lot of the cast, but that doesnt come off as a failure of writing in the slightest. this movie is incredibly easy to tease and poke at yet so hard to hate. this movie is a family member in the way christmas movie is but it has the cultural weight and fantasy to it of a classical myth. forever the GOAT 🐐
assignment is to rewatch this but put yourself in the mindset of someone who has never seen or known star wars, and think about the things they say and the clothes they wear and all the funny little aliens. its delightful
i also watched this with my dad which made this a really fun experience because he's the reason i carry this disease. it holds up!!!!!
