Monster
ABSOLUTE CINEMA. There is so much to say and hard to arrange it.
The story is actually begin with a man who obsessed to a woman. He kills everyone who knows them, leaving two kids with no names and true identity. He is the one who made one of them a nameless monster.
Johan, the nameless monster, is an utopian character with nihilism who steals names, memories, and identities, and make them his own. I think Johan is the representation of dark side of human and the world. He shows how weak human's mind is when it comes to desire, lust, and truth. His ending is just perfect. For the first time of the show, he has trace. It shows that Johan ended as a human with real name and identity, not a nameless monster.
As the contrast to him, Dr. Tenma is an altruism character with humanism who put everyone else above himself. He is the representation of human's goodness and kindness. Unlike Johan, he saw human life as equal, even the monster one. He saved future monster once and he saved him again after everything he did. That is the point of altruism. He is too good to be true.
Watching this feels like playing a puzzle. Lots of episodes started by showing a new character out of nowhere, like jumping to other story. But at the end, they are all connected to Johan or something important. They all have important roles. Everyone of them is a piece of puzzle.
Now, I want to talk about two favorites or even the best side characters, Wolfgang Grimmer and Lunge.
Grimmer the Magnificent Steiner. The way he expressed his fake emotions is just sad. I mean, what the point of life if you dont have a name, identity, memory, and can't feel emotions?
Inspector Lunge, I love his duo with Grimmer although very short. At first, he looks cool with that fingers air typing. But then he became annoying by acting like smartass who believe that Johan is just imaginary, and Tenma is the main suspect, even after he saw proves that lead to Johan's existence. But he is very logic person and believe to his own database, and Johan is utopian, so I can take that. Although, at the end, with his own investigation, he found truth about the nameless monster and a man who made him.
One last sentence, Roberto is a crazy badass villain.
