Mystic River
Wow, just wow. The film takes a dark and twisted look at revenge. Many of the characters truly reflect what they feel with their actions, not to mention the fact that the identity of the killer remains unknown until almost the end. This movie had me hanging by a thread. A masterful performance and a world where there is no black and white, no good and evil, but people are shades of grey. It shows what someone will do when something is taken away from them and empathy, even though I think Dave gets much more than he deserves (and not in a good way). Recommended for everyone, a film that should be seen at least once. The duality between being a cop and a friend is perfectly captured, and Dave's childhood trauma is horrific. As I said, the only complaint I have is the injustice towards Dave, but life isn't perfect, and there isn't always redemption or understanding. That's why I give it a 4.5/5, because I think it shows the harshness of real life and the injustices that occur every day on earth.
