The Big Lebowski

What a strange film, but it's brilliant. It breaks with established norms; the protagonists are people who aren't usually the protagonists in this type of "detective" plot. The story is strange, but that doesn't make it any less good, and the characters are memorable; I don't think you'll ever forget The Dude after watching it. They're a group of friends, dysfunctional people, who play bowling, and it all starts because someone pees on the Dude's carpet. Highly recommended.
