Unbreakable
god he’s SO GOOD AT THIS.
the suspense! the camera! the story! the thing that’s really clicked for me about shymalan, especially post-Trap is how much of his work is about the awe that comes from learning something about your parents/parental figure, from getting through something together, from understanding the power in banding together. Old, Knock at the Cabin, Sixth Sense, Signs, The Village, and this. (Trap, of course, is a great play on that — the awe of the child curdles upon learning who her father is, it’s great, i digress)
anyway, all of this works for me, i think the twist/reveal is great, i think every shot is so smart, i really could have done without the last 30 seconds but that’s fiiiiiine
