i can’t believe this film about michael keaton tackling social issues was hiding from me on netflix this entire time
in all seriousness, this is one of the best movies i’ve seen in so long. just when you thought the job couldn’t get worse, it does……. because it did. it almost reminds me of She Said in how procedural it is, but that’s exactly what i loved about it (both adapted from a memoir/book, both also directed by women 👀). despite the minor deviations it had from the real life story (that i thought were very meaningful; e.g., the addition of younger POC characters), it was an unwaveringly nuanced and faithful tribute to the real people working on the fund and the families affected by the attack. and that’s everything i wanted it to be!
however “oscar bait” or “spotlight-y” it is, i’m still surprised to see the rating it has on here. people forget that this was a movie about legal compensation. i felt like i used my brain a lot and learned something too. underrated! definitely rewatching soon.
