Tampopo
"My final movie is starting..."
WAS CRAZY
somehow a japanese western makes sense ??? it was really interesting and i liked the whole concept of this. subject matters also discussed besides food and appreciation and enjoyment of it was romance and intimacy. which were portrayed with food as well. relationships with food. super interesting and i loved it. i'm also obsessed with the awkward comedy incorporated into this,
this felt like a testament to say that anyone can enjoy food regardless of status and that anyone can learn to appreciate it. food is also meant to be enjoyed and devoured. this one hit close to come because a lot of what they were talking about resonated with me since my dad is literally the same. he's a big foodie and cook and loves talking about how to make new recipes or where the food comes from. the characters in this were so knowledgeable about food and i loved listening to the things they had to say. it was all very wholesome. i learnt a lot more about food and ramen through it. their love and excitement about food is so contagious. plus, i just came back from tokyo this made me miss the food in japan already.
not sure how i feel about there being two big stories seemingly happening at once, it feels like it's good because there is variety but at the same time, it can be confusing. it sort of came together in the end anyways so. i loved the journey of tampopo ramen it was fun to watch how they discovered new things along the way. every character is likeable too, especially sensei's gang that ate off the streets, they were so caring (and smart).
there is truly something so romantic about this and food is love after all
and honestly i love love love that ending because it sums up everything by saying that's our first food and first taste of something and that is mothers milk. something is so beautiful about this. overall just such a beautiful wonderful and well rounded film i love this so much
but like shivers by david cronenberg coins, everything is erotic! so sensual and sexual and food is intimacy. food is love in every sense of the word.
