Tetro
"ENDING? WHAT ENDING?""The one you couldn't face."
deception woven so deep that its facade even felt like the truth, this was so beautiful to watch and i loved every second of it.
i love how coppola styles this whole thing in black and white and then for flashbacks, uses such saturated colour. the lighting is also so beautiful. this reminded me a lot of rumble fish (1983) because of the family ties and "brotherhood" and the different lives they live and their distance from each other because of their families and their trauma. tetro especially is so afraid of his past that it manifests into his aggressive personality. but clearly, family never dies because he changed his name to tetro which basically is his family name. it is actually so beautiful and heartbreaking.
the progression of this is really good, not even sure whether it could be considered as slow because i feel like im getting used to the slower paced dramas. i like how as time passes, bennie seems to start to lead a parallel life to that of tetro's. and being the better version of him.
i seriously cannot get over that last bit, like it was honestly so good and i really wish this film was longer so we could have seen more progress with the other relationships in the family that could have potentially added fuel to the fire.
the bits of the plays were so perfect and nice to watch, loved those parts and the saturated flashbacks as much as i did this entire film.
this and rumble fish are brothers and i love these two films with my entire heart. and i literally can't because why does vincent gallo actually eat with the outfits every single time he's in a movie they make him look so good every single time it's crazy. him in a leather jacket is insane
