Eternity
2025 Ranked
Don’t care, im giving this 5 stars. It answered pretty much every question I had about its intriguing premise as soon as possible, and the rest would obviously be answered as the film progressed. There are a couple of lingering questions about the rules of the Junction but you know what, I’ll leave that up to my imagination.
As far as the film goes, I did not expect this to be so damn funny! There are SO MANY gags here, a lot of fantastic visual/physical ones that will have you full on belting. It offers a lot of rewatchability in that regard, trying to find new jokes. The comedy does kind of take a back seat in the second half but it never completely disappears. They really do take full advantage of the concept in terms of comedy and I have a suspicion that there were hundreds of more jokes that just couldn’t make the cut. The war bits were probably my favorite.
The three leads are all fantastic. Love Elizabeth Olsen, and she absolutely delivers. Loving Callum Turner finally being recognized. My eternity would be hitting Miles Teller with a car, but after that performance, I’ll have to reconsider. My only issue character wise was Anna although it has nothing to with Da’Vine (she was phenomenal) herself, but they did her so dirty dressing her like SpongeBob.
I knew what her decision was going to be pretty early on, just as a hunch, but even after knowing it and seeing it come to fruition, the movie still manages to surprise me and keep me guessing. I honestly love how it veered off into directions I personally did not see coming. It almost seems like the kiss of death with a film like this in where the ending is sure to upset people, but they manage to have an ending that is completely fulfilling even if it may feel a bit obvious at times.
Eternity is just wonderful. It’s the rom-com of the year and the exact type of film that so many people have been complaining doesn’t get made anymore. Super funny, very touching, visually gorgeous, and never too sentimental for its own good. Such a big surprise for me this year but im so glad it exceeded my expectations.
