Apocalypse Now
The horror... the horror
I think Apocalypse Now might be the greatest war film I’ve seen since Saving Private Ryan. I was blown away by the visuals, it's incredible that a movie from 1979 can look this good. Whether it was a remastered version or not, everything felt vivid and immersive, and it genuinely felt like a feast for the eyes.
What really stood out to me was how the film balances the brutal reality of war with intense, almost surreal action sequences. It captures both the chaos and the spectacle, at times feeling like the kind of over-the-top war imagery that only a 14-year-old boy would have a wet dream about, but grounded in something much darker and more disturbing underneath.
The pacing worked really well too. The journey down the river gives the story a clear structure, and you can feel the tension building as things gradually unravel. The music plays a huge role in that, it keeps a constant sense of unease and suspense hanging over everything.
Even with limited screen time, Marlon Brando delivers a truly unforgettable performance. It’s the kind of role that sticks with you. Seeing a young Harrison Ford at the beginning was also a fun surprise.
Overall, this movie was really great. If you're going to watch any war film, this absolutely deserves a spot in your top three.
