Hacksaw Ridge
No Gun... No Fear...
I watched Hacksaw Ridge yesterday—and yeah, I’m a bit drunk writing this—but honestly, that might just make it more real.
First off, Andrew Garfield absolutely blew me away. I’ve only seen him before in the Spider-Man movies and The Social Network, so I kind of had him boxed into those slightly awkward, nervous roles. And sure, his character here has some of that too, but this felt like a whole different level. He really brought everything he had. It didn’t feel like acting at times; it just felt raw and genuine.
What really stuck with me, though, is the story itself. The idea that one guy, Desmond Doss, stood up against the entire system over his beliefs about not carrying a weapon is just wild. It’s such a powerful underdog story, going up against something as massive and intimidating as the U.S. military. And what he actually accomplished? Straight-up heroic. No exaggeration.
Overall, I loved this movie. It’s intense, emotional, and honestly inspiring. I’d easily call it a great war film, and yeah, I think everyone should watch it at least once.
