"We have to be greedy for life. They say greed is a vice, but that’s outdated. Greed is a virtue, especially greed for enjoying life."
Second movie directed by Kurosawa that I have seen but Yojimbo doesn't really count because it's a samurai movie so it's self-explanatory why I did not like it. But this...
Follows the story of an old man who has stomach cancer and has little time left to live. This movie asks the question: What would you do if knew you were going to die soon?
Watanabe the protagonist of the story has no choice but to answer this. I think the best part of this movie is its simplicity. He doesn't do anything grand or crazy with his time left. It is as though he goes through a calm awakening. Showing that is never too late.
The third act was slow hence the four stars but one scene did give me chills and wish the movie ended on that scene. (Added half a star just for that scene)
A beautiful movie that allows you to recognize you only get one life one precious life. Don't waste it doing an office job for thirty years. Life is brief. Do what you love and be good and the rest will fall into place.
