i wanna talk about something what an interesting unraveling of mysteries, i think the zodiac might just be... zodiacs-- and also what an amazing set of characters, i dont think characterisations could be this subtle except in real life, all so beautifully and hauntingly written, and considering these characters and a rewatch, i think the movie was not written as a cliffhanger: the protagonist himself said he just wanted to know who did it-- he did not try to arrest him or get him to the police-- just who did it? and what does his face look like? and what do we get at the second to last scene of the movie? just like that-- his story arc is complete as he is convinced that the guy did it and he got a good look at him, and leigh asked if he could help the protagonist with anything, and he answered "No." just like a man who is obsessed with solving problems/puzzles would definitely have said to the creator/perpetrator of said puzzles (because it would be cheating and take the fun away from solving it himself), he has subconsciously convinced himself, completing the story
