Climax
Such a claustrophobic watch, usually I find these sorts of films fail at delivering an atmosphere which is equally nauseating, horrifying and yet cohesive; something that doesn't feel like a slop of cheap shock tricks. However, Noe has been surprising me.
The same three colours dominate the film, its an overwhelming visual that you cant escape no matter where the camera turns. The audio itself could be a horror on its own. Knowing the intensity of a bad psychedelic experience, the constant attempts to control your mind while feeling every emotion to exist and teetering on the borders of sanity, makes the little child's scream from inside the control room MORTIFYING!!! It alleviates the tweaking tenfold, the child is in danger outside and within the room and he's been given one singular caution you already know he wont follow. It feels like your skin is getting peeled back slowly, you want to jump through the screen and tell him to BE QUIET!!!!! YOU JUST GOTTA LISTEN! but you know its just unrealistic for a child to even begin to comprehend what's going on.
And when the lights and music go out, it doesn't stop. You know what's happened without seeing it explicitly, but the movie continues, the music comes back on and everyone just keeps tweaking. It's exactly the same with the lady on fire. There's nothing their tweaking minds can do because that's EXACTLY what it's like. You can't choose when to come down, you just have to endure it.
This entire film felt like hell on earth and I FKN LOVED IT!!!!
