Pyaasa
Quite possibly the greatest motion picture of India.
Pyaasa is the grief-stricken tale of a poet. A man who is neglected by society. Who used to be bright in studies but life never really worked out for him.
Pyaasa means 'The Thirsty'. In this film, the protagonist is not the only pyaasa. Every character in this film has a thirst to be quench. Vijay wants to be loved and accepted. Meena wants to live like a high society girl and for her thirst of wealth, she didn't hesitate to give up on her love and marry a rich man, like it never existed in the first place. Gulab only wants to be treated with respect, that's why she fell for Vijay when he addressed her as "AAP", she was never probably called like that before. Vijay's brothers and friend want only his wealth and fortune, and they did what they had to. However the greatest thirst is of Vijay, he wanted a world, the one he dreamt of and which never came true. As the story progresses, his thirst slowly dies, and he has no complaints left. Nothing. He's not Vijay anymore.
I love that it got a happy ending.
Life altering experience for me.
