So i totally understand why this is seen as such a groundbreaking film and i agree, it was wayy ahead of its time. But i cant lie it was a complete snoozefest for the most part for me. It had some really cool imagery and amazing shots, i personally liked the sound track and i respect what kubrick tried to represent even though i couldnt fully understand it, but man the pacing is absolutely horrendous. Some sequences are so slow i genuinely wanted to turn it off. The film-and especially the ending- feels like some sort of abstract painting. Im sorry but i couldnt convince myself to give it anything more than 3 stars. Watching this film feels like a chore tbh. The writing is super boring

Man i genuinely got into this thinking it was gonna be just another cute little fantasy film but this might be the greatest piece of cinema i've watched till now. The way del toro blends the mythical world of fantasy creatures and fairy tales with the raw and brutal real world seamlessly without either of them taking anything away from the other is genuinely admirable. The film is raw and brutal and the way the film slowly sets up its dark and gritty world is also amazing. A very unique plot and the way the characters(especially the captain) are written and potrayed is flawless. The climax and the way the film was wrapped up was very satisfying and pretty much perfect. Piece of art. Definitily gonna start getting more and more into del toro's filmography from now on.

Weird ass film
