Vertigo
I always hear about this film in the context of obsession and Hitchcocks projecting his own marriage and stuff onto this film but for me this is even more so a case study of trauma, how it culminates into obsession and how destructive patterns arise from that.Scotty serves as a prime negative example of how not to deal with his trauma. He seems even depressed at times about his situation with him being a single retired detective. His obsession with Madeline is a way to deal with his trauma and insecurity’s but in the process of that Scotty pushes away the person who seems to genuinely like him-Midge-and whose got a great personality beyond just looks. After Madeline’s supposed death Scotty seems to even show violent behavior towards the new woman in his life-Judy-now also trying to deal with the trauma of losing Madeline as well ultimately ending Judy’s life.Absolute cinema
