18M Film/Law Student "Genetic control. Information control. Emotion control. Battlefield control. Everything is monitored and kept under control. War has changed." - Fung, Shaolin Soccer (2001)

Rewatched so many times already and I'm glad to come back to it, nothing will ever top my first watch of this film and it is still my favourite film ever made even all this time later. Everything about it is so funny, engaging and perfectly done, even the small errors and nitpicks are charming in their own way. This was my entry into Stephen Chow and after watching several of his other films I'd have to say he might be the greatest and most consistently entertaining filmmaker of all time. All these rewatches later, I still film myself laughing aloud at many of the jokes. Many would say that it being a 2001 comedy about using Shaolin kung fu to play soccer means it cannot be art, but to me this is a masterpiece.

Having made several short student films before, I know that 5 minutes is long enough to have an actual plot and events. *Tarantulla* doesn't have any of that. Nolan just wanted to be weird. Is that a crime? Clearly worked in his favour!

In the end it was more goofy than it was eerie but still fun to watch.
