Groundhog Day
this rewatch had me notice that Punxsutawney Phil predicted 6 more weeks of winter at the very start.
When Chekhov saw the long winter, it was a winter bleak and dark and bereft of hope; and yet, we know winter's only one more step in the cycle. And standing among the people of Punxsutawneybasking in the warmth of their hearths and hearts, I couldn't imagine a better fate than a long and lustrous winter.
Its also bizarre watching this now when it snows in florida but minnesota cant get a real blizzard. But in Groundhog Day not only is Phil stuck there in the cold in a blizzard he can't even acknowledge at first but he is socially isolated with all long distance lines down. Something about that very specific point in time makes it even more magical with each year.
Also bizarre to see how unique and clean it is with all of its repeating, remixing, and re evaluating that it seems a lot of movies about time shenanigans seems to forget to even acknowledge.
also more movies should take place on a strange holiday so people have an excuse to rewatch them every year
