Challengers
I didn’t expect to actually be engrossed with this film but as soon as the first parallel appeared, I was locked in. The parallels are immensely obvious with clear meanings but suprisingly not in a way where it feels as if you could’ve not understood it otherwise. It felt as if it was intended to be that way and to be consumed that way.
Honestly, I didn’t know anything or what to expect so I thought Art and Patrick were just two gay guys and that this was going to be another film where a women comes in between them. I wasn’t that far off with even Tashi saying she was a home wrecker.
Each of them see the other two differently. They have different reasons for interacting. What connects them though is tennis and sex.
Hatred and love seems to be separated by a blurred line when it comes to Art and Patrick. Tashi likes feeling good about herself but she also like some good fucking tennis. Their relationship with each other and their own characters are complex and you can’t really define them to boxes like boyfriends or a couple.
Everything is about tennis and every time I hear a new interpretation of the three, I devour it.
