Happy Together
I love the pacing and emotional depth that they portrayed in this film, it’s not like other films when something happens it immediately goes all over the place, the characters would be emotionally tied to a single scenario (depending on the scenario) until the very end but for happy together it portrays raw and authentic struggles. It’s not your typical romantic movie where conflicts are just easily resolved by the characters.
It just shows how messy it can be and no matter how many times they try to start over, some things just aren’t worth saving.
You’ll notice how one character (ho po-wing) was trying to maintain his somewhat bubbly personality even after getting hurt. He noticed that lai was annoyed by his presence but as time passes by when lai’s jealousy and trust issues fueled up to the point that lai doesn’t want him to go out anymore so he bought boxes of cigs to prevent him from going out, you can tell that he had enough.
