Close-Up
Felt slower than the other Kiarostami films I’ve seen, but it was more than justified as the films gives you lots to think about. Taste of Cherry and Where is the Friend’s House revel in the simplicity of their stories, something that enables them to dig so deep into the characters and humanity as a whole. This film is very different. Deceit is the basis of all filmmaking, documentary or fictional, but I’ve never seen a film that plays with it so well. Through this the film comments on cinema, its place in the world and our lives, in such an engaging way.
