Heat
One of the greatest crime films ever made the intricacy of storytelling here was amazing. Both Pacino and De Niro gave amazing performances they felt like mirrors of each other on different sides of the life.
I felt like the ending was perfect De Niro’s character sticking to his iconic line of “Don’t let yourself get to attached to anything you’re not willing to walk out on in 30 seconds flat if you feel the heat around the corner” walking away from the women he wanted to run away with. Which mirrored Pacino’s character walking out on his family in the hospital after his daughter’s attempt. Perfectly illustrating both men’s deep commitment to there respective field leads them to lose out on those personal relationships driving those close to them away in pursuit of the only things they know living the life so mirrored its best represented by two sides of the same coin.
I think the ending sequence which shows Pacino’s character embracing De Niro’s in a sign of respect after finally catching and shooting him is a perfect representation of how he knows they are the same just on opposite sides.
One of the few films I’ve ever seen where both the protagonist and antagonist are phenomenal characters though I’d say Pacino’s acting was far and away the best. This story shows them both in a way where you’d want both to succeed but ultimately having De Niro’s character caught by Pacino in the end was the perfect ending to this story.
