All memories are traces of tears A journey of a lonely man immerse in nostalgia of a great love that couldn't be and will never be. The relationship Tony (no idea about the name of the guy) has with each women is special, but ends up ruined because he wants to revive the love he felt for Su Li-zheng in "In the mood for love", the greatest thing about the film is that he recognizes it. Tony ends up alone, just as he began, wishing that the train to 2046 was real so he could scape and, as he says, recapture lost memories. The sub-plot of the 2046 story is also beautiful, as a Wong Kar-Wai film, it's purely based in atmosphere and has Faye Wong. Love is all a matter of timing. It's no good meeting the right person too soon or too late.
