soooo good for the first half of the film until it became so messy in terms of script. should’ve been gayer. but it’s okay ig since it’s sooo relatable and i absolutely loved the first half

wow! watching this 2 years later and damn does this hit way closer to home than ever before! it’s crazy because i find bits and pieces of the characters that reflect myself all in its own distinct way. this movie was just way too relatable for its own good, ang sakit niya pati. super. parang kagat ng tyrannosaurus. ugh ang relatable talaga ni simon :’) sexuality’s is one of the, if not the most, sensitive topic for me na napapa-gets na lang ako kay jacques at blue eh .. the title mention din was just absolute cinema too!!!! i love you, love, simon. my new comfort movie fr

> *- do all lovers feel they’re inventing something? […] i imagined it all waiting for you.* > *- you dreamt of me?* > *- no. i thought of you.* happy pride month! i’ve watched this already but damn, ngayon ko lang talaga na-appreciate yung beauty ng film na ‘to. i love everything about this movie, it’s sooo intentional and artistic in everything it does. i love how the film really made us linger with the emotions it was trying to convey. even in scenes wherein ten to fifteen seconds more wouldn’t have really done anything to further push the narrative of the story, celine sciemma’s deliberate choice in allowing us to linger as the audience, absorbing in what the character’s experiencing, is such a powerful move. i think it’s a personal favorite of mine in films, to be honest! i don’t think it’s something any kind of director can pull off; it requires a plot rich in emotion and characters full of depth in order to allow the viewers to really immerse in the characters’ (and even the viewers’ own) feelings. if done poorly, it’d look reaaally dragged, but the film executed it perfectly..!! at times, man, i would just sit with my emotions and feel what they’re feeling too, reflecting on the situation and how it would have affected me..! not only is this film a romance, but it’s also a very compelling social commentary too. i loved the subplots. history really does repeat itself, huh? it’s crazy to think that the problems women faced in the 18th century (and even those dating farther back) are still the same problems women face today. aand going back to my first point, the way the film makes us sit with these depictions of women that are considered unconventional and converse to those of the dominant male gaze of society is soooo good. it challenges the audience to really view the movie with an open mind and fresh perspective on things. adding more to the things i adore about this film, i REALLY REALLY REALLY LOVE how everything’s left with so so so much room for interpretation. luanne from a year ago would have disliked such an ambiguous movie but now, i appreciate it alotlotlotlotlot. i love how every single one of us can have their own meaning to heloise and marianne’s actions and lines, i love how there is no objective answer on how we must interpret it. it gives so much space for discussion and seeing how different people view the movie in such different lights is so refreshing. buuuut the main reason on why this film is so captivating for me is its depiction of art. this is me viewing the film in a new historicist point of view (LOL! 21st century literature are you proud of me), okay??? today, in the age of generative ai, wherein every other scroll leads you to content created by or assisted with artificial intelligence, i think a great deal of us has forgotten the importance and beauty that is stored in manmade art. art, in its most raw form, will always have a story—a process done with passion, an emotion buried in between its layers, or a connection with its creator— these are all elements vital in the creation of art; all elements considered futile for ai. advantageously, this is parallel to the story unfolded in the film, wherein every single painting, drawing, or sketch illustrates the unfolding of its own tale. each stroke portrays the sentiments of its artist and every respective dab of paint reclaims its own story. it’s such a beautiful and melancholic romance. that’s all i’ve got to say about their romance. it’s so sad, beautiful, and tragic, all at the same time. the best and worst variant of orpheus and eurydice :’) marianne choosing the poet’s choice whilst heloise chooses the lover’s choice.. </3 oh my days, i think i can talk about this film for a good five hours. this is barely the tip of the iceberg on my thoughts on portrait of a lady on fire. don’t even get me started on the cinematography, score, or how adele haenel and noemie merlant are their own works of art in and of themselves. ‘yun lang, idk guys ang deep na ng appreciation ko sa film na ‘to, LOL! sorry for going off on a tangent.. this may be my longest review yet, heh.

it’s so upsetting to think that the fantastic beasts franchise is filled with so much interesting subplots and vivacious characters, all with their own wonderful backstories, yet it’s own VERY POOR* *writing and direction caused the franchise to fail,, rather atrociously,, there was so much potential w fantastic beasts MANNNNNN i am so disappointed by the way they executed everything, it was so messy and boring! watdahel 🥲 everything would have been way better if grindelwald and dumbledore just kissed brah
