Train to Busan
After watching the 10th Anniversary version of the movie, I can still say that this remains the greatest movie of all time. While there is some bias with that claim, the movie does everything perfectly. Tone, setting, stakes, tension, commentary, and action. Seeing each character arc in real time, it’s easy to digest even in a different language, the foreshadowing and the subtle subliminal messaging in the movie puts it in a league of its own, and it’s a zombie movie on top of that. Having the two of the saddest deaths in cinema really hits, I’m pretty sure 90% of the theatre cried. Relating to each character throughout the movie allows you to connect and root for them on a different level, putting yourself in their shoes and having to make quick decisions in such a claustrophobic train. The unique zombie rules in the movie work so well with the setting, having the darkness blind the zombies until the light comes back.
The main character, being selfish and the start but overtime learning to care and be a better influence to his daughter. It really puts it in perspective how you would be in a situation like that. The main antagonist being the same character in a way but remaining selfish, different side of the same coin.
The old women criticizing the youth and not understanding them is a solid part of the movie, and the pregnant lady with her husband showing us how family is supposed to be together. There are so many character beats I could touch on in this movie, watching it for yourself is the best thing you can do
Overall Train to Busan remains the best zombie movie out there, not only the best zombie movie but the best movie period. Will there be another movie like it? Only time will tell but as it is now this is a cult classic and deserves to be in the GOAT conversation in cinema.
