Blade Runner
cyberpunk is not an aspiration, but a warning.
my 2nd time watching this film and i wanted to check if it’s still as good as i remembered.
honestly, this is one of the most defining movies in the whole cyberpunk genre. i love the entire premise, and it's a big plus that it diverges from philip k. dick’s original book while still keeping the core themes intact. especially the idea that the machines (replicants) often feel more human than the actual humans.
the cinematography and set design are insanely ahead of their time, with ridley scott at his absolute peak and vangelis delivering probably one of the best movie soundtracks ever made (LORDD AND I MEAN THAT!!!).
the only thing that still throws me off is that “love scene” between deckard and rachel, it is super forced and honestly rapey af, which makes it uncomfortable to watch.
but minus that scene…, the film remains a masterpiece in worldbuilding, atmosphere, and philosophical depth.
