Sonatine
wanted to watch this because it seemed almost directly responsible for yakuza 3, with some guy wearing kiryu's exact fit as well as taking place at a house very similar to the orphanage; but what started out as a pretty simple yakuza film turned into one of my favourite hangout movies of all time. Murakawa has grown bored of his life and the yakuza altogether, and in this time that he's sent to Okinawa with his family there's nothing else to do to pass the time but play children's games. For the first time he looks like he's truly having fun and appreciating life. (the sumo scene is one of my favourites of all time i think) this is contrasted by the lack of emotion in every other aspect of the movie. anytime someone is shot and killed, in a dreamlike way, it's almost as if nothing happened. every character just gives a blank stare void of any emotion. i didn't expect to like this movie as much as i did but man i love yakuza
also Joe Hisaishi composed this?!?!?!? i love the soundtrack
